First up, posted a couple blocks away from Junior's Cafe on SE 12th:
I think seeing this touched my heart. I haven't been to Junior's in months and am planning on changing that awful truth pronto. Their Superhero Scramble is possibly my favorite* in town, and their Vegan Potatoes plate with creamy tofu sauce and fresh sage sorta rocks my mouth with yum. Add sauteed tofu to that and you won't be sorry.

Moving north on on SE 12th, you come to a food cart dominated parking lot at SE Hawthorne. Home to Potato Champion and vegan poutine, a vegan-friendly pasta cart and where I truly wished Gorditos II had opened (but it's okay, I can easily go to the original or vegan Ankeny location).
Looks like El Brasero Mexican cart has clearly gotten wind that vegan-friendliness can = increased business in this town. Anyone been?
The vegan options are written at the bottom of this board. I can't say a $6.50 vegan burrito has much pull for me, I just love Gorditos' so much, but I'm sure I'll stop by at some point and give it a go and support this vegan effort. Let me know if you do and if there's something great!

There's no place like Portland.
That Big Old Vegan-magnet that someone hid in Portland is now beginning to affect the businesses too...
Why can't the whole U.S. be like Portland!!??
That's so wonderful!!!! Unfortunately, South Carolina isn't as veg friendly as Portland.
Wish I was in Portland, I wish everywhere was like Portland!
Very cool! I too wish my area was a tad more open to veganism. One of my colleagues today, who didn't know I was vegan, told me that he hates vegans....just on principle. *Sigh*
I love all the signs! $6.50 for a vegan burrito, yikes!
I've never even been to Portland, but I want to move there. You couldn't find one place here in Charlotte that catered to vegans, let alone a whole bunch of places.
I agree. More veggie/vegan options = more business. I just got a local restaurant to add veggie options to their menu after I blog-whined.
Obviously there have been developments since I left that fair city. I never remembered Junior's having alcohol, and even though I used to live near Brasero's and had heard it was good from my non-vegan friends, I'm one of those people who hates having to request no dairy and pay full price, so I never ate there. But this is intriguing.
Oh the words "Welcome" and "Vegan" in the same sentence. I must gather all local vegans when I move and create my own little Portland on the east coast. Vegans go to Charlottesville!
I must be living in the wrong place. Here in Michigan, outside of the big college towns, veggies are offered not much more than a salad and something with mushrooms (which I am allergic to)
I miss it so, so much. The snow looks lovely. It's been ugly sunshine here for the past week. >p
wow thats awesome!!! Portland is really pulling through!!!!
Oh, Juniors...sigh.
check out even more veg-friendly places here: www.VegPortland.com !!!
I used to eat at Juniors all the time! I really miss it a lot! I'm hoping to do a whirlwind tour of portland eateries this summer! It's been about 3 years since I was last there and it's crazy how many new places there are to eat at now.
ijdi, I thought of you loving junior's when I posted this! I remember you used to talk about it back when I was new to pdx....
I love this post!
Portland is such a vegan mecca... I just got back from visiting (for precisely that reason!) for the second time in less than a year.
I'm sooo jealous that you live there! I just wish Chicago would take a hint from Portland...
Grrr...
I am really due for a vegan pilgrimage to Portland!
So, I do not really consider it may have effect.
