Peach Cobbler & Purely Decadent Coconut Ice Cream

To my delight, I was contacted by Purely Decadent recently for the sole purpose of eating coconut ice cream and dishing about it here.
Not being entirely selfish, I decided to invite several PPKers over after a lunch meet up and share the decadence.

To start, the package of their coconut ice creams was fed-exed with dry ice to my office:
Cookie Dough, Chocolate, Coconut, Vanilla Bean and Mint Chocolate Chip

Note to the world - do not touch dry ice!

I set up the ice cream station with dark chocolate sprinkles, organic chocolate syrup, water and a fresh Peach Cobbler.

Now, I am already a fan(atic) of the light and creamy Sharon's Coconut Sorbet sold at Trader Joe's, and do enjoy a few bites of Coffee Coconut Bliss until it gets a bit rich for my taste.

Overall, I enjoyed how these weren't as heavy as Coconut Bliss, for better or worse (aka eating half a pint for dinner).   The Vanilla Bean was my personal favorite, and even the Mint Chocolate Chip escaped being victim to too much coconut.

The winner of the day seemed to be the Cookie Dough and Chocolate.

The Vanilla Bean ontop of a small piece of warm chocolate cake or brownie would probably blow my mind.

As for the cobbler, I made it with local peaches I picked on my birthday weekend.  It is the recipe from Vegan with a Vengeance, and somehow I'd never made it before.

Jeff takes the taste test very seriously.

I am back from Seattle and had fantastic time.  I'll try to post about it before leaving for Monterey Bay, CA for work this weekend - let me know if you have any tips for there or San Jose - and don't forgot about VeganMoFo starting October 1st!

Ooh, you are so lucky! I bought myself the mint chocolate chip and coconut to try and they were both delicious. My Whole Foods didn't have the cookie dough, chocolate, or vanilla bean at the time, so I have yet to try those. :(

Hey, I want to be contacted by Purely Decadent for the sole purpose of eating coconut ice cream and dishing about it! [/end stomping/pouting bratty hissy fit]

I've had the cookie dough and it was dangerously addictive. That peach cobbler looks so gooey and delicious!

I'm from San Jose, but lived in Seattle for the last 5 years (before moving abroad). When I returned from Seattle as a vegan, I was really disappointed with what I found at home. Of course there is Whole Foods and there is Trader Joes, but in general the Thai food and the pho aren't great, and the vegan options stink.

BUT it's getting better! We now have our own vegan cafe, Good Karma, located downtown (I don't know the exact address, but you can google it, they have a website). I eat there at least every other day when I am home (it also doesn't hurt that many of my friends work there). It is not "blow your mind" vegan food, but it's darn tasty and well priced. Either way, as San Jose's only vegan restaurant, it deserves your support!!

Let me know if you go!

P.S. - Their chocolate pie IS blow your mind vegan food, however. Order a piece, no matter how full you are.

DIVINE!!! I love that the cookie dough ice cream is gluten-free AND soy-free (since I'm both of those, haha).

Gorgeous cobbler!

That cobbler looks crazy delicious. And I have had the pleasure of having tried Purely Decadent--I love the Cookie dough. Oh yes.

Lucky you! Oh yes, that Sharon's Coconut Sorbet is fanfreakingtastic. I don't buy ice cream much, but when I do - it's almost always that.

I'm glad you had such a great time in Seattle! I love it there.

I love that peach cobbler. And it would be even better with self-picked peaches!
I love cocnut flavoured soy icecream sold at a restaurant in Sydney, I am intrigued by coconut milk ice cream. Though I doubt I'll ever see it here in Australia!
Maybe I could suggest they send some over for a vegan taste test here? Expand the market and all that... ;)

Monterey has some really good vegan options. Ambrosia Indian Bistro has an entire vegan menu (get the kurkuri bhindi), Croce's Pizza has a vegan pizza (make sure it's on the thin crust), and Cafe Lumiere has amazing vegan spring rolls and off menu vegan stir fry (just ask).

I made a vegan chocolate ice cream a while back with coconut milk as the base, and, I have to say, it was divine, so I bet these are also awesome.

I can't wait to try the coconut ice creams. I haven't seen them around here yet. They sound so good!

Hopefully you get this while you are out of town! You should definitely check out the Monterey farmer's market, it is really fantastic. There are several in the area, but the one in downtown Monterey is on Thursday evenings. And as with other Whole Foods, they have a salad bar with a flat per-pound price, which is a nice option if you get tired of eating out. Hope you like the area, it is one of my favorite places to visit in CA.
