I went to a
work party at the
Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary this past weekend. I helped clean out chicken coops and met a ton of happy farm animals! I recommend this experience to anyone willing to get a little dirty, because it was worth it and I daresay I would have spent all day there.
To meet a pig and cow who will never become someone's dinner is a beautiful thing. I'm relieved and proud that I discovered the disconnect of animals as food as a young vegetarian, and know people will continue to do so.
Here are some photos from the day..
I think this was Summer, the goat. There was also a Spring..
This chicky had a similar coat to many local cats, colorwise, that I've seen in SE Portland.
I think this is Spring, the goat. Spring and Summer were rescued from a property with a meth lab. What the hell.
Michelle and her goat friend.
Giant cow and pig!
Resting.
Another awesome bird.
Showdown.
No pressure for these guys.
No one tells you that peaceful doves have a terrifying laugh. Until now.
Hanging out.
Afterwards we had a potluck lunch. Delicious!
They didn't bring any food so they had to eat grass...
Bye goaty!
Lastly, Luke the pig. Soooooo cute.

such a rewarding experience, working with/visiting the animals - great photographs!!
Oh my god, those animals are so adorable!!! Especially Luke the pig and the meth lab goats. Oh, and cat chicken...he was cute in an ugly way (you know, like pug dogs).
How can anyone eat those precious babies?!
So cute. I have a friend with a farm, and the goats really are the best - so friendly.
I just want to squeeze that adorable pig!! What a happy, peaceful life they have. Thanks so much for sharing!
