and now a word from our sponsor..tempeh

Two tempeh shots from this past week -

Smoky grilled tempeh and smoky kale from the test kitchen, VWAV brussel sprouts, grilled yellow pepper and some leftover tator tots.

An extra piece of tempeh and last minute dinner became chicken-fried tempeh, steamd kale, and 123s and chreese. The chicken-fried recipe is from vegcooking.com.
It's tasty, but I'd marinade longer next time (soy sauce, maple syrup and a touch of frank's) and add more pepper. I did like it more than when I used the same recipe with tofu.

That's it for now. Alas, I broke my pinky toe yesterday. It's funny, indeed.

Wishes for a quick recovery for your pinky toe... ouch! The tempeh looks good. I still have some in my freezer desiring to be used someday.

This looks delicious!

Ok. So I will ask the dumb question of the day, but I have to start somewhere...

What is tempeh, where do I get it, and what do I do with it?

Looks yummy.

Ouch. Did you accidentally kick a wall or a bed frame?

I love tempeh! I think I like it better than tofu even.

Yum. Tempeh, my love, my only.
My doc has given me the OK to go 50% raw, as long as the not raw half is all protein (stupid protein!!!). So I get to continue my love affair with tempeh, hooray!

missgayle - check any health food stores in your area, as well as whole foods/wild oats/trader joes type stores. If they don't have it - ask them to order it. It took me a bit to love it, but once I learned the right techniques I was enamored (Taste-wise)

erica - congrats!

And thank you guys for the kind words regarding my tempeh, and well my toe. I'm limping around just fine : )

Mmmm- tempeh- I can't get enough of it. Must try chicken-fried. What is Frank's? Is it a BBQ sauce?

hey bazu! It's Frank's of Frank's Red Hot (sauce).

Tator Tots!!!! I forgot all about those. As a child, I practically lived off them and Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.

Take care of that pinky toe!

These look like some great southern-inspired meals. For some reason, looking at this post reminded me of going to Old Country Buffet - pre-veg, of course. (have you ever heard of those?) Positively delicious!

Aw, your poor toe! At least you have lots of nourishing goodness to speed along your recovery.

It all looks great, especially the chicken fried tempeh. I will have to try that soon.
