Vacation & Visitors Food Recap, to be continued..

Okay, this is the first of two or three posts recapping my recent vacation along with my sister's visit. Of course, I love cooking, and my sister also does, and I dare so her boyfriend does as well. These photos will be more or lesss of the things we all made (mostly them) and restaurant experiences.
We not only dined in Portland, but Seattle, too. We dined in Cannon Beach as well, but that was just a boring salad for me at a pizza parlor. Speaking of Seattle, I'd appreciate your take on it, if you've been. It was so damn nice to be in a big city again, with new veg options on top of that. Plus, it snowed! Then it snowed in Portland BIG time, well, for Portland at least, but I had off work already that day so wasn't too floored. Usually snow in Portland means seeing a couple teeny flurries amongt cold rain, and yet they still call it snow. I simply just loved the snow. I stared out the window for most of the morning..

Rumnog Pecan Cookies, a PPK test recipe. This batch came out alot better than my last, plus these are frosted with green! They were taken to a Portland vegan potluck the first weekend my sister was here. I got to share these with fellow veg/ppk bloggers Webly, Joanna, Erica and Julie~

Black Bean burgers with field greens, tomato, avocado and hot sauce, another PPK test recipe. These were made with mostly black beans, but also kidneys since we were running low. On the side are my sister's rosemary roasted blue and yukon potatoes.

Black Bean sauce veggies and tofu from Bay Leaf, Mike's entree. My sister and I had Sesame Tofu, which I've shown here before. You just can't go wrong with it.

Onto some Seattle grub, from our awesome weekend in the snow there:

Corn Chowder and dipping sauce from Bamboo Garden.

Combo Meal C with Sweet and Sour chicken balls, Mike's lunch special. Are balls just a big thing at this place, or elsewhere as well?

I ordered Combo B with Almond fried chicken, while good, the grease stuck with me, and it wasn't the 'chinese' dish direction I was expecting. I did however, really dig the Chicken Chow Mein on my plate and would just orde that. The gluten puffs just needed to be out of sight, not my thing at all. Or anyone else's at the table...

icky pizza pi pizza
Tommy and I had lunch the second day at the Wayward Cafe in the U District, which I'll post about next time. I had a tofu scramble meal that came chock full o onions even though I asked if it would have any and told it wouldn't - but oh well, it gave me a chance to pick up a small pizza pi vegan pizza nearby afterwards. The pizza, sadly, wasn't rocking my world. The rice cheese, I think homemade, stuck to the roof of my mouth - even when no longer hot. It, or maybe just the sauce, just tasted sweet.. I ate it, starving, but was not impressed at all, other than it being done fairly quickly.

The cute outside of Pizza Pi, across the street from Sidecar, the vegan store.

I picked up a couple items here. It was nice to see quite a few people shopping in the small store. They also sold Tofutti Pizza - which I haven't seen in almost 2 years, and never in Portland. I didn't pick it up, but yeah it was adorable to see.

I'll leave you with a shot of Tommy and I being all chilly at the viewpoint spot on the road from Portland to the Oregon Coast.

When I first saw the picture of the Rumnog Pecan Cookies, I thought they were red lentil patties with some sort of basil/cilantro/avocado cream topping. They sound very intriguing.

Very jealous about the snow! It looks so pretty. I wish it would snow here for 1 or 2 weeks. That's all I need. Then I'd like summer again!!!

Yum! I'm so jealous of all of the vegan options in the pacific northwest (and of your current snow! ).

Hi Jess!
I lived in Seattle for two+ years and it's such a wonderful place to live. It's beautiful and vibrant and full of veggie options. When I lived there, the vegan scene wasn't really happening yet - but there were are few great veg restaurants (with vegan options), and it's generally a very veg friendly place. There are some great natural food stores too! I had a great time in Seattle, but in the end I moved back to California. I moved because 1) my friend that I had moved up to live with left, 2) I was cold (I'm a wimp!), and 3) I missed my family in Santa Cruz. But I still have nothing but love for Seattle, and I miss it a lot. Especially since I've been hearing about all the great new vegan spots there. Did you go to the vegan donut place??

What great pictures! Your food looks WAY better than the restaurant food.

I've been thinking about those cookies. I want to make them without the frosting.

Thank you for sharing. I have to agree with everyone else, too. And you with Tommy...adorable. You're so tiny compared to him. Reminds me of me and my husband.
