Black Bean Burgers and Slightly Spicy Oven Fries

A week or two ago, the folks at What the hell does a vegan eat anyway? made black bean burgers from the Candle Cafe cookbook for dinner. Not only did the burgers look awesome, but I also had soaked black beans to use and that particular cookbook (which I adore along with the original restaurant) in my hands. It was a mushtastic learning experience but everything turned out well - I thank Ellen & Julie for the tips and further smooshing of the batter. I ended up baking the patties and then frying, and in the end the texture and shape were great.
I served them with a side of local russet potatos cut into small strips, tossed with olive oil, paprika, cayenne and sea salt and roasted. This burger was served with avocado, Frank's Red Hot and Vegenaise on top of green lettuce and cherry tomatoes on a sesame buns - all the works were applied in case the patty wasn't up to par - it was good so the burger combo was very, very good~ The buns were from Upper Crust Bakery.
The burger was made of black beans, red and green bell pepper, carrots, corn meal, flour (called for chickpea flour), onion powder (I couldn't bring myself to put actual chopped onion in it, sorry), chili powder, cayenne, sea salt and probably something else I am forgetting~

MUSH
Colorful burgers being pan fried in olive oil (as specified in the book)
I've had this burger for dinner once and lunch twice so far, so tonight I needed a break and my boyfriend treated me to Vege Thai, although I admit I had entire meal planned..so expect another dinner post soon.
And if you find yourself at Candle Cafe, I recommend the club sandwich with tofu and tempeh bacon : )

I am obsessed with Candle Cafe. I eat there everytime I'm in NY. I haven't made these from the book yet, but perhaps I should try them.

I love black bean burgers! I suck at making them though. They always fall apart for me. I've meaning to try them again sometime soon though. Any tips?

hello. I have never commented on a blog before but I wanted to tell you that I often make black bean burgers. I got my recipes from How It All Vegan! But the twist is I serve mine with Lime Mayo! Obviously vegenaise is the base and then...well I can send you the recipe if you like, I promise you won't be disappointed!
