Living in New York and Boston before my move to Portland, I sometimes miss bigger cities. On the West Coast, I've been to San Francisco and Seattle.
Of course I adore Portland but I do relish the feeling of walking through downtown Seattle, because downtown Portland is tiny and short. I've been back from my most recent Seattle trip for a few days, and have settled back into my Portland routine just as I'm heading out to Monterey, CA this weekend.
For me, Seattle means vegan chinese food! The offerings in Portland just don't compare to Grasshopper in Allston, MA or Buddha Bodai in NYC. Seattle has come to rescue my guilty cravings with Teapot Vegetarian House, Bamboo Garden and most recently, Vegetarian Bistro - I'll check out vegan Thai and Vietnamese offerings next time!
But first off, there's the coffee. I don't drink much, but I enjoy the flavor and have high standards. While in town I first indulged in a double Americano at Lighthouse Coffee in the Fremont district.
Below is a Caramel Chai Walla from Trabant in the University District. All the steamed Chaiwallas are available vegan, and there were at least 10 flavors to choose from. It was perfect on the rainy day.
My tour guide had a Clover cup.

I also dined at Brouwer's, a Flemish Beer House in the Fremont district. I had a a local IPA, but forget which brewery, oops.

I'm glad I spent my time walking around so much - up and down so many hills - and in particular, this one to and fro my convention on the waterfront below Pike's Place Market.

Seattle, Portland, San Fran...never been, never been, never been! You'd think I'd been glued to the East Coast all these years or something...and I am seriously missing out!

I used to live in Seattle, and reading your post makes me miss it a little. It'd be fun to go back and poke around my old haunts.
Truth be told, I am hoarding pictures on my memory card, in anticipation of VeganMoFo!

Wow Vegan CHinese food. I never would have thought. I live in NYC and eat Vegan desserts all the time. But have never had Vegan Chinese food.

The tofu rolls look interesting! Sorta like omelets. Did you like them?
Don't you just love the West Coast? Northwest has all my affection. Almost. Just except the part that I gave away to NYC.

I love Seattle. I live in Olympia now, but I still commute often. I've never been to any of these places, but they definitely look like must-check-outs!

I didn't have a favorite Chinese place when I lived in Seattle. I wasn't a fan of Teapot (but only ate there once) but I always enjoy the Bamboo Garden. Is the Bistro new? It would be fun to try a new place next time I visit.

I was up in Seattle last week, and I got to check out Araya's. Its in the university district. Thai vegan. It was beyond delicious, and I thought I was spoiled living in southern California.
Anyway....thanks again....you've gotten me even more excited about moving to Seattle :)
