I have a project coming up using these books and I am much too excited. I even bought new scissors. Decoupage!! I'm not much of a crafty gal outside of the food world, so yeah, excitement is here.
Also exciting - this swiss chard. I had visited two other stalls at the downtown farmer's market and this bunch was practically twice the size of the others I'd eyed, and the same price of $2.25. And beautiful. And two ears of sweet corn and two fresh okra(s). why not?
I almost bought some fresh garbanzo beans - but looking at the $3 price tag for a pint, no matter how much I wanted to have a fun purchase, I only had so much money in my wallet and kept thinking that dried garbanzos are so much cheaper! or 79 cents = a can at Trader Joe's...
A colorful meal, using that pretty swiss chard - short grain brown rice and black beans, baked peach bbq tofu and a mix of chard, garlic, mushrooms and corn.
Stay tuned for the ole cookbook project~

That BBQ tofu looks delicious! Mine never seems to turn out quite right.
I would definitely recommend trying fresh garbanzos some time. They have a completely different flavor than dried beans and are really tasty! If you have a Mexican market near you, they might have them. Our local has them for about $3/lb.
SWISS CHARD!!! Love.
That project looks fun! (And mysterious!)
Also peach BBQ tofu sounds devine.
Cool! I've never seen fresh garbanzos.
Are you going to buy yourself some fancy garnishing tools? I've always wanted to learn to make all those cute little garnishes.
Okra! Do you remember whose stand you got that at? I was really tempted to buy some at People's co-op yesterday, but not for $6.99/lb. Your meal looks beautiful and I can't wait to see your project!
Peach BBQ tofu! Brilliant!
And who doesn't love fresh okra - the fresh shot looks great.
Have fun with your project!! who doesn't love that tried and true feeling of cut and paste...I love it. You can do some wicked art projects with magazines. Have fun.
Mmm, great dinner! I love seeing farmers market foods!
whoa! i have never seen fresh garbs before...now i am going to have to hunt them down somewhere in Missouri!and i like the word titallating :)
Love the peach BBQ tofu idea. I don't have any peaches, but I've got several mangos - maybe mango BBQ would be good, too!
Okay, I will have my eye out for some fresh garbanzo purchasing soon! I can't resist trying something fresh and new from the farmer's market, it's true..
ATX - The garnishing book is hilarious and is for a table decorating project, don't except to see radish flowers here anytime soon (sorry!)
Ali - hello! There were two or three stalls with fresh okra at last week's Wednesday downtown market - both for $4/lb or so..enjoy!
jenny - I have seen mango bbq sauce before - go for it!
I want corn!
I love decoupage! It's so fun and adorable.
And I guess I've never seen a garbanzo bean in the shell or husk or whatever that is....weird looking. I wouldn't even know what to do with that.
New projects are great! I have an entire month off between Summer and Fall term and I am trying to figure out what I am going to do with all of my time! If the rain lets up I should do something in the back yard, we are trying to make a spot for a rain collector! I never thought I would be into that kind of thing but it sounds so exciting!
I've never been able to find fresh garbanzo beans- they must be awesome. Too bad they were too expensive!
Your dinner looks delicious and full of fresh produce!

Can't wait to see your project! Also, fresh garbanzo beans? Ooooooh- I've never had that!
