Balsamic, Orange and Garlic Roasted Brussel Sprouts and Green Beans

Just like the title states, this is a super quick roast of brussel sprout halves and green beans. I got the recipe from a OPB/PBS cooking show - you simply roast the veggies in a bit of olive oil for 4-5 minutes, and then you toss them with balsamic vinegar, little more olive oil, grated orange peel, sea salt and crushed garlic.

This was certainly tastier than I anticipated. I had this as a side to baked tofu, organic pasta and red sauce, as seen below. I wish I knew how to post more than one photo instantly from FLICKR, as thenI'd be quicker to post my Pirate's Taven review & photos..

This was my first time having brussel sprouts (in memory), and I did enjoy em. However, the leftovers for lunch the next day tasted like death and I could not eat them.

Ooooh, I love Brussels Sprouts, but I don't mix things up very often when I fix them. I love the idea of orange juice and orange zest. I'm sorry they tasted like death the next day! But... I would have probably eaten them anyway. I'm a human leftover vacuum cleaner! =)

I wish I could have shared with you then, bazu - is that normal for 'reheated' brussel sprouts? I know people speak of a bitter flavor, but this was just dirty. I think I had a couple leftover green beans that were splendidly fine, though. I'd still give brussel sprouts another try if you have any suggestions!

I love how you said "they tasted like death" LOL. What does death taste like exactly?

For the brussels - I noticed you left the core in. Try quartering or shredding them and cut a "v" in the bottom to get rid of the core. I promise it will not taste bitter; in fact, it will taste like a whole new veggie! It's brussels season and you should eat them! Your recipe sounds super, so I hope you'll give them another try. And the tofu pasta thingy looks extremely yummy!

oh dang! That tofu looks so insanely good. I am still pretty unskilled in the ways of tofu. That just looks so good, and much better than the tofu I just forced down with my dinner!

I LOVE the brussel sprout recipe in the VwaV. Easy and delicious. It was the first thing that got me to like brussels. I think organic makes a difference, and I think smaller & fresher makes a difference. Not sure if you can get them at your farmer's markets up there - I think something like 90% of American brussel sprouts come from Santa Cruz & Monterey county, so we've got a LOT of them around here.

that's weird that the sprouts tasted so bad the next day. Glad you liked them when they were fresh though. I just started eating brussel sprouts too!

Good looking post, as usual. I'm just not getting into brussel sprouts. It's not the flavor so much as it is the texture. You should try Isa's brussel sprout recipe in VwaV. It's good, garlicky and easy.

I'm you've alreafy tried this, but have you tried uploading a picture and then rehitting the picture button to upload another one? That works for me when I upload from Photobucket.

I've never cared for Brussels sprouts--maaaybe roasted I would be able to take them, though. I've been considering giving that a try--but if I do, I'll remember that leftovers are no good!

That's weird, my brussels always taste fine the next day, and I leave the core in. I just roast them tossed in olive oil & S&P. Maybe it had something to do with the orange reacting with (something)???

You are like tofu magic. Everyime you post tofu, it looks delicious. And I don't like tofu. Ergo, magic.

I've never had a brussel sprout. They're a little alien-egg-looking.

Oh, I can't wait for your review of Pirate's Tavern! I was so excited when I heard of it. Both of my kids are very into pirates.

The brussels sprouts sound so yummy!

Your brussels sprouts look so good! I've only had them once and didn't care for them much, but this makes me want to try them again.

Look how 'wowed' we all are with your brussel sprouts! (are we veggie crazed? yes!) I would experiment more with them but the rest of the family doesn't care for them much and so I don't give them much attention. Too bad, because when I see a pic like yours I want to make them! Funny comment about "tasted like death" the next day - I've found that with other veggies at times that are leftover - like broccoli - maybe it's a cruciferous thing - eat them fresh cooked, not reheated. Fabulous pics as always! :)

You know, I swear I left a long response before I left work, but it is clearly not here. Basically, you guys have me wanting to try them again this winter, for sure.

Those look so good. We like brussel sprouts with a bit of a peppery yet slightly sweet soy sauce, from Buddha's Table. I love the color!
