Friday night sandwiches..

We closed down the office yesterday at 2:15 instead of 4:30 and I had a happy, errand-filled afternoon. First, I worked out for half an hour in the building gym, then I took the bus to The Decorette Shoppe, a cake supplies store where I was awe-struck and practically giddy, especially went an older woman (we'll call her Mrs. Potts) showed me how to roll parchment paper properly into icing bags. My next stop was an Asian market where I picked up Tommy's favorite faux chicken nuggets and coconut milk. From there I went to Food Fight! to grab the brand's chicken patties and a loaf of Dave's Killer Rye Bread. If you are in Portland or will be, try this bread. We started getting it at the Farmer's Market last summer and it is worth every penny of the 4 bucks.

Faux chicken patties in action:The making of the chicken patties, and just know I had a tempeh bacon sandwich (with a bonus of avocado love).

Roasted potatoes with sweet paprika, emeril's seasoning mix, salt and fresh ground pepper. I wasn't crazy about the sweet paprika and didn't realize that was what I bought until I got home and used it. Still tasty, though.
New silicon oven mitt!! No heat, no pain.
Coconut-Almond-Chocolate chip muffins (made with coconut milk and coconut flakes) . My oven was seriously being wierd, and I burnt the sides..one minute they were undercooked, the next oh well. Still very good and I'm having one for breakfast on the go.
Cocoa Butter from The Decorette Shoppe. Something exciting from The Artful Vegan cookbook is in store!I'm off to volunteer at NW Veg's VegFest: A Compassion Living Fair.. perhaps a picture or two later!

Those muffins look awesome! I love things that chock full o' stuff. Things full of stuff. Man, I am so articulate it hurts.

Also, I'm really jealous of your cocoa butter. I want to get my hands on some and try making vegan white chocolate, but no one around here sells it and I've yet to work up the motivation to order it online. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

vegancore- I twisted around the VWAG Mocha Chip muffin recipe about 4 or 5 times, and it was a fun experience. Really really good tasting muffin, that the burnt sides don't fully piss me off to inedibility. (probably not a word)

amy- thank you, Food Fight is a very cute store itself too. VegFest was wonderful, and I flipped tempeh bacon for nearly 2.5 hours : ) Pictures and info to come..

Thanks for posting about the vegfest! I hadn't heard about it before. We went and really enjoyed all the yummy samples. Not a bad lunch for $15 a family!

We heard Howard Lyman speak and he was very funny and informative.

We looked for you but didn't see you. After Howard Lyman, it was way too crowded for us agoraphobes and we got out of there. Not before Hibi bought a shirt that says "Go Vegan and no one gets hurt." :-)
