I'm on day 2 of my business trip, and have been enjoying my wandering, the water, fancy hotel and break from routine. So far I've checked out Ambrosia for an Indian dinner - thanks to the anonymous commentor who left the tip about their separate vegan menu!
After not having a real meal all day, spicy chickpeas, warm whole wheat naan and brown rice really hit the spot. I was sad that the saffron rice wasn't available vegan, but upon digging into my own food it became a passing thought.
The day before I departed I made a special trip to Sweetpea for donuts and coffee with friends. I indugled (oh my-indulged) in an apple fritter. A hyper start to the day.
I'm still good with my sugar intake for the rest of the week.
VeganMoFo starts Wednesday!

Damn you! For a moment I thought there were vegan donuts in Monterey.
I hope you're having fun!
Shit, I need that fritter. Like real bad. Oh well, glad you're enjoying yourself in Monterey Bay!
WOWZA look at that fritter - heavenly!!
ENjoy the rest of your business trip!!
I really enjoy Monterey. I loved all the sea lions and sea otters swimming about. I just heard about the apple fritters and now seeing it, I need to get myself one! Have fun!
Your post reminds me : Dang, I was so gonna participate in VeganMoFo this year!
Definitely next year, though. Until then I'll just enjoy your VeganMoFo posts :)
That apple fritter looks so lovely. I am drooling!
A good indulgence for sure! That apple fritter looks so good.
Sounds like the trip is going well? Have fun and eat lots more good food!
Mmmmmmm apple fritter! Totally worth the sugar stupor. Have fun!
Apple fritters are my absolute favorite doughnut, but I haven't had one in years! I am so envious of your vegan fritter!
If you're in Monterey, you have GOT to check out the Tuesday farmers market downtown. They don't just have fruits and vegetables; there are many food vendors offering great noshes for dinner. This page links to a Google map of it. If you miss that one, Thursday's also has some food vendors - but Tuesday's is the best farmer's market I've been to.
Also, try Tillie Gort's on Lighthouse; they have some vegan options. The Loose Noodle on Lighthouse also has a few vegan options if you like pasta, and it's super-cheap.
Now I will never be able to get that fritter out of my head.
Go Vegan MoFo. I'm in this year, even if the comments on Isa's blog are nto working. (I think so many people responded that it broke he comments bank!)
rednikki, thank you!!
I intend to go to that market tonight if I get done with my business function in time. I did stop by Tillie Gort's but I wasn't intrigued - any specific recommendation there?
I went to Hula's for dinner last night, and was thinking of trying Amarin for Thai (saw the 'veg friendly' sticker in their window!) or someplace downtown....
thanks again,
jd
My kingdom for vegan donuts in Minneapolis.

Mmm, that fritter looks scrumptious.
Marty has been bugging the shit out of me to make him an apple fritter. Gah! This picture looks so good. How can I compete?
In my opinion everybody should browse on this.
