East Coast Coffeecake with Black Raspberry Jam Swirl
I thought the title of the post was appropriate, with my immediate vacation to NYC and all. I'm amusing to be vacationing somewhere I grew up nearby, but even though I went vegetarian at a young age and lived on Long Island, I didn't try a vegetarian restaurant in NYC till I was in college. I'm now making up for lost time.
So far on the list to dine (I'll be doing some other things too, I assure you) is: Red Bamboo in Brooklyn to meet up with PPKers, including Bazu!, Snice (either one, I've been to the one on Manhattan), Penny Licks, Candle Cafe (went years ago), Buddha Bodai, Foodswings, Teany (years ago) NY Dosas cart and Hangawai. And a few non-veg specific places as well, like Mamoun's Falafel and Indian on 1st ave.
Let me know if I'm missing something!
NYC is amazing, and thank goodness for Supervegan.com, the PPK and Menupages for helping me figure some things out!
Jam Swirled.
Right before sifting with powdered sugar......
Who needs Entenmen's?

It's too bad that 'Snice just switched up it's menu to carry the chicken Ceasar wrap in lieu of the chicken pot pie wrap - both are good but the potpie wrap is ridiculously delicious!
Don't forget to go to Gobo while you're in town!!!
The swirl is amazing, I love how it looks!!!
Just for a gourmet raw food experience and excellent salad, I would go to Pure while you're there! www.purefoodandwine.com
When is the meet-up?
Oooh, the black-raspberry jam addition to that coffee cake sounds AMAZING!!
Sounds like you have some great restaurants lined up for your NYC trip!! Yum!!
Holy shit, that's an amazing looking coffee cake! Amen to "Who needs Entenmann's, anyway!"

I'm jealous of you impending trip, and anxiously await an NYC food re-cap. I stopped by the dosa cart when I as in NYC over the summer and it was so worth it. Penny Licks looks amazing!
Thanks you guys! Elizabet, I totally added Counter for brunch on the list - thank you especially!
vegyogini & coulditbeseitan - check out pandacookie's thread in the square of the PPK to RSVP and more info - the meet up is on the 25th at red bamboo in brooklyn. hopefully see you!
Cherie - I will dine raw somewhere, I vow..

the swirled jam looks gorgeous! you're really working up my appetite for the crack of noon with all these coffee cake photos! have fun on your nyc trip - i'm super jealous of all the vegan goodness and can't to hear about the city and all your meals. (pretty please, take lots of photos!)
Have a great trip. All the vegan options in NYC are amazing. Also, at the Brooklyn Museum I recommend The Dinner Party - a highlight of my last trip.
That jam swirled east coast coffeecake looks AMAZING. Isa is on a roll with all of these awesome recipes, I can't wait for her new cookbook!
I almost want to get sick so you can make that cake for me! Looks so great! I really need to vacation in NYC soon. I've never been, and I'm sure I would just freak over all the vegan options.
jam and coffee cake= AWESOME
All of these little teasers from Isa's new book are killing me!
Oh yum! Each recipe I hear about from Isa's new book makes me even more eager to get my hands on it! That looks great!
I second Sacred Chow, and not just for brunch; they've got a great nighttime atmosphere!
And as long as you're hitting up Foodswings, Taco Chulo is in the same neighborhood and has the best and biggest burritos -- tons of vegan ones, and they're happy to veganize the rest. And now they've got Falafel Chula too, if Mamouns isn't enough!
Have fun!
Oh! The cake looks so tasty.
Looks wonderful....Isa can never write enough cookbooks.
NYC? I'll be there on Saturday! Hope you have a great, great time, Jess!
Hurry up and get here- I can't wait for the meet-up!
Safe travels!
That coffee cake looks so delicious with the jam swirls - my mouth is watering!
You are too sweet to give that coffee cake to a friend!
Oh, and your list looks full of the same places I want to try when I go in July. Can't wait to hear about your experience!! What about Blossom? I've heard that place was good too....
Ummm, I believe I'm recovering from surgery as well and that cake would certainly speed things along.
OK, I made that up, but that cake looks so good, I was willing to lie.
Have a blast in NYC. Bring back lots of pictures and lots of stories.
Oh, and say hi to Bazu! You guys are going to have such a good time.
I can't wait for her cookbook to come out! Have fun in NYC.
Caravan of Dreams in the East Village is my favorite vegan place in NYC. The menu is huge (with a very significant selection of raw food items), the food simply amazing, and the atmosphere fun and colorful. They were great about hosting my 30th birthday dinner in December!

Wow, Jess, that looks fabulous! I'll have to try that with one of my coffee cake recipes, to snaz it up.
I adore coffee cake. And I haven't had a good one in years.
But this one, oh, this looks like a dream.
Now, where is my cake pan?
Cheers!
