Anatomy of a Grocery List: New Seasons & Mini Whole Foods trip

New Seasons' had their 8th Anniversary sale this past week, and I picked up the following:

  • Nasoya Soft Tofu 1.59 (I normally like to buy local tofu, but this was on sale and I wanted it for something specific)
  • Luna bars 79 cents each
  • Mojo bars (my favorite, though they're kinda dry) 79 cents each
  • Organic Blood Orange 1.99/lb
  • Organic Shallots 4.99/lb
  • Soy Delicious Cinnamon Roll yogurt 69 cents (picked up more of these and raspberry before the sale ended) Read the Veganshizzle review of them here. Personally I was never a frequent yogurt eater, soy or dairy, but this flavor is delish. Sweet and not exactly healthy, but still something healther than soy ice cream!
  • Woodstock Farms Organic Classic Creamy Peanut Butter 2.99
  • Organic Broccoli 1.99/lb
  • Powdered Sugar 1.99 (not organic, but not cane)
  • Organic, local Cremini Mushrooms 4.99/lb
  • and Swedish for the movies - we enjoyed Juno at Cinemagic that evening~
And from a quick trip to Whole Foods, while downtown this past weekend on errands:

  • 365 Ketchup 1.69
  • Tator Puffs 1.99
  • Elbow marcaroni 99 cents/lb
  • Short grain brown rice 89 cents/lb
  • Earth Balance Shortening sticks $2.49
  • 365 Diced tomatoes $1.29 (which made the last posts' BBQ sauce)
and in the back, from Fred Meyer, Sweet & Spicy (yes, vegan) Doritos, which I cannot bring myself to open. Phew. $2.50

I'm not a big Whole Foods shopper, but Thomas and I had lunch in the Pearl District and decided to hop in. One thing I really like is their policy of Non-GMO in the 365 brand. I don't have to buy organic to feel safe.

These two trips were short on veggies, but I assure you, they're being eaten. In fact, I'm gearing up to sign up for CSA share again this year, like I did the year before last. I'm leaning towards Sun Gold farms. (aka squash man!)

Wow, I had no idea about the Doritos! The last thing I cut out of my diet before becoming fully vegan was Nacho Cheesier Doritos... they still smell good to me when my hubby (vegetarian) has a bag of them after 3+ years vegan.

I live right between Whole Foods and Trader Joe's and I end up going to WF quite a lot. They seem to have such a bad rep with the union busting and all that, but I have to say that I love that place! There are lots of good deals and so many locally made vegan products.

I would kill to be able to get the EB shortening...or any trans fat free shortening.

Yum, I want to go shopping with you next time!

I've had my eye on that cinnamon roll yogurt, so I'm glad to know it's good.

I subscribed to the Sun Gold Farms CSA last year and loved getting my box every week. Some weeks were better than others, and there were a few weeks where I had to come up with things to do with massive heads of cabbage and zucchini, but overall I enjoyed it.
