Welcome to the First Anniversary of Get Sconed! Part-ay

I created this blog during the last week of December 2005, and made my first official post on January 1, 2006. Hence, happy one year to GetSconed! It's been a real treat.

Of course, I was inspired by Vegan Lunch Box, and not satisfied enough with posting the occasional food porn in Veganfoodpics on Livejournal. This year I'm focusing on writing and posting actual recipes, eating local and organic throughout the winter, soups, testing more and more PPK recipes and feeling productive, buying another 'real' culinary knife and still being cooking-obsessed - the flat out reason I made GetSconed! (which I must credit Thomas for naming). Somehow, I hope to improve at digital photography and presentation in this upcoming year, as well. I'm aiming for a new camera within 9 months.

With making this blog, I hoped some people would have to be interested in seeing what another food blogger was up to, as I am with them. I want to thank some of the first blogs I started reading on a regular basis (and hearing from as well) - Vegan*Core, Eat Air!,What the hell does aVegan Eat Anyway?, Fatfree Vegan, ViveLe Vegan! and Eat Peace Please.

Back on track and misty eyed, here's some food porn:

xmas and related food 047

Cinnamon Apple 'Buttermilk' Waffles- made with whole wheat pastry and oat flour.
Topped with maple syrup (the good stuff!), sliced apples and a dash of cinnamon.

xmas and related food 053
Pan fried cajun tofu (dipped in a cajun spice mix, paprika, sea salt) - rubbed and topped with roasted garlic, oven roasted potato rounds (sea salt, freshly grounder pepper and garlic) and
fresh spinach. I felt like tofu for breakfast the other day, and then realized it was lunch time. I had also restocked on ketchup (organicWoodstock) and wanted to use it.

xmas and related food 062
Chicken-fried seitan cutlet and green beans. Quite simple, really. The seitan cutlet is a test recipe for next year's PPK book. Those were Trader Joe's frozen organic green beans and weren't half bad. It's more of a Thomas recipe than a Jess, but I survived : )

xmas and related food 064
These were a bitch to make but worth it. Homestyle potato rolls - another PPK test recipe.

xmas and related food 060
You know the PPK banana bread is so awesome, right? This one is super duper good as well - the basic recipe minus 1/8 cup of sugar, plus chopped pecans and an extra banana, since I had 4 all mushy and ready.

So thank you for reading my blog, and commenting, asking questions, etc. I appreciate everything!

I probably won't be posting for a bit, as my sister and her boyfriend arrive tommorow! We'll have plenty to do, not to mention cooking together, including her specialty - gumbo, cupcakes and potluck treats for the weekend.

Congratulations on your first b'day, Jess! I absolutely LOVE your blog and I can't believe there is any way to improve on your photography. Your food looks awesome all the time. I'm looking forward to another year of your posts.

Your pics look awesome as always. I'm looking forward to another year of inspiration!

Happy B-day! I was totally cracking up at your comment about how it was more of a Thomas recipe than a Jess recipe but you survived. Marty & I have many of those days. I totally made this delicious sandwich today and I asked Marty if he liked it and he said, "It's not one of the better ones you've made." Upon further probing he said he really didn't like it much at all. Oh well. I guess if I'm the only one cooking I can pretty much make what I want (insert evil laugh here). ;)

yay! Happy anniversary. Your blog was one of my main inspirations and although I haven't been as active lately, I hope to be inspired by your continued enthusiasm!
And all those ppk test recipe posts make me so excited to try it when it comes out. Keep up the good work.

I love reading your blog, you do so much heavy-duty blogging all the time.
and, ok, that waffle picture alone proves that you DON'T have to improve your digital photography any- it's digitally pornalicious!

Oh, and I'm glad my photos inspired good NYC memories in you! I love the place.

I must concur. Your photography is awesome. I'm tres jealous. Funny, I'd said my goal was to improve my pics, big time. You, too, have been a vegan inspiration in the kitchen to me as well and I must say congrats on sharing your love of cooking for a full year now. Have an awesome time with your sis. Happy New Year and Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary! Your food looks awesome - I really need to get myself a waffle iron. And when that new ppk cookbook comes out, I am totally blaming you for making me rush out and buy it - the test recipes all sound amazing.

Hey I used made something like your mom's sweet potato dish - but not really because I didn't look at the directions - more so you inspired me. I'll post it soon.
Very yummy. Thanks.

I'm way late to this birthday party, but happy blogiversary! I've enjoyed your blog so much, though reading it always makes me much too hungry (and the photos are great, btw). Right now I'm craving that cajun tofu and now have to go find something in my kitchen to compensate. Thanks and congratulations for having such a great blog!
