pesto pesto pesto pesto

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am looking for food processor advice.

The time has come (I received the 2 lbs of bulk basil in my csa share yesterday) for me to seriously purchase one and stop abusing our blender and coffee grinder for tasks such as making breadcrumbs. I'm hoping to spend less than $60, and I think I'm 'alright' with somewhat of a smaller model. Thoughts? What do you have? Brands?

I have a Black and Decker Quick and Easy. It works very well, even with a huge crack in the container.

In the picture on your post, the specific model has an arm where if you are slicing stuff it can bypass the processing bowl and shoot into a salad bowl or something like that. Mine also has it and I NEVER use it. Instead, it's just an added pain to clean and takes up too much room in the dishwasher. I'd recommend getting one without it unless you are preparing massive amounts of salad and need to slice and dice right into the salad bowl.

My Regal La Machine is 19 years old and still going strong. Do they still make them?!

I have a medium one that came with my blender as an attachment. I used to have a large.. the kind you could knead dough in but it's motor dies right after to warranty expired. :( I haven't missed it.

I have one of these:

the white one. As you can see, you can get one for less than $50. It's been perfect for most of what I want a processor for, but won't do huge jobs like these folks are talking about--won't do dough or anything like that. But it whips up enough pesto for a pound of pasta very well. It doesn't slice or anything, just chops, and it has an oil feed in the lid.

If you want something more complex but don't want to spend a lot, I'd suggest Craigslist.

Cuisinarts rock. Don't get a mini or small processor, or you'll be making everything in batches. Get a normal or larger processor.

I have a mini processor that holds about 2-3c and it is great for anything small and was $10.
